Following Jesus – Seriously

“Congregations are not glamorous; they’re comprised of sinners”, says Eugene Peterson. He’s right. And I’m one of them. Sinners, that is. So for me the challenge of following Jesus is big. Throughout the summer some of us have read/thought/studied/discussed/prayed about what it means to follow Jesus. Maybe you were one of them. We all realized how important following Jesus, seriously, can be for our lives and the lives of those around us.

I’m doing a series of sermons centered on the theme of following Jesus – seriously. The word “seriously” scares me. It might scare you. But, so what. With fear and trembling I’ll dig into this theme of following Jesus, becoming like Jesus, challenged to have my character changed or modified to reflect the character of the One I call, “Lord.” It’s been said in different ways before and is worth repeating, “God loves me as I am, and loves me too much to leave me as I am.” It’s the latter part we’ll be focusing on.
